released December 13, 2015

Guitar and vocals by Woosung Alice
Recorded and mixed by C. Ezra Lange
Album art by Christel Lee

I worked on these songs from January 2014 to September 2015. All tracks were recorded live with live looping -- no overdubs or prerecorded sounds -- at Fort Knox Studios in Chicago, IL on Monday, October 12, 2015 between 11am to 3pm.

I thank Ezra for pushing me to do proper recordings of my older songs. Originally, I only wanted the song cycle on the album. Also, he did a fantastic job recording and mixing the album. I thank Brian Goodheart for his technical/gear advice. I thank my sister for the beautiful portrait. I thank her, Vicky Lim, Onicia Muller, Karen Ong, and Emily Suh for their input on various aspects of the album. I thank God for placing these people in my life and music.

Track Name: Whelm
Deep calls to deep in the roar
Of your waterfalls
All of your waves and your breakers
Have swept over me

Set me as a seal upon your heart
As a seal upon your arm
For love is strong as death
Jealousy as cruel as the grave
Its flashes are flashes of fire
A mighty, mighty flame

Many waters cannot quench love
Nor floods drown it

Give yourself to me
All of you
All to me
All to me
All of you
All
Give yourself to me

***Except the last section, lyrics are taken/adapted from Psalm 42:7 and Song of Solomon 8:6-7
Track Name: Sad Bird
A sharp rebuke
Is sweeter than honey to me
And your displeasure
Is my measure
I'm just a placeholder
For someone better, for someone better
Maybe one day you can be pleased with me
So just tell me what you want from me

I'll never be your ideal
But you can break me in still
I'll never be what you will
But you can bend me to your will

If you hate it
Erase it
If you desire it
Just require it

While you pretend you're happy with me
I'll pray you find her and set me free
You never loved me
You never loved me
You never loved me

While you pretend you're happy with me
I'll pray you find her and set me free
You never loved me
You'll never love me
Track Name: Thunder
Thunder
Sing me your sweet melody
I'll sing along, I'll sing along
Let the earth shake
At the sound of your voice
Let the earth quake
As you resonate

Thunder
Make me shake, quake
Lightning
Illumine me

Dash me to pieces
Shatter me
Make me
Tremble
Tremble
Tremble

***Lyrics inspired by Psalm 29:3-9 and 1 Kings 19: 11-13. "Illumine me" taken from Clara H. Scott's hymn "Open My Eyes That I May See." "Tremble, tremble, tremble" taken from the spiritual "Were You There?"
Track Name: Nebuchadnezzar
Bifurcations, byways, beholden
Devouring line
Unasked ancient paths untrodden
Drenched with brine
Nature morte
Misplaced import
Fin de siècle
All hail and heckle
Speck o' decay, furthers delay
Speck o' decay, furthers delay
Talley the clods in the valley
Talley the clods in the valley
La da dee dee

The tree has withered
My wisdom's smitten
Nails as claws to scrounge the ground
Mouth askew to catch the dew
As the rain drops upon the ruins of my reign

Where have you gone
What have I done
What have you done
Where have I gone

Dirges besmirch your reputation
Races erase your paces
Dingy thin
Rise above the din
Mellowed worn out grey with a touch of yellow

Your color once meant valor

Where have I gone
What have you done
Where have you gone
What have I done

No one knows
No one knows
No one knows
No one knows

***Except the first section, lyrics inspired by Daniel 4
Track Name: ¡Vicuña! - Part I of the ¡Vicuña! Song Cycle
Lucid glimmer dissipating
Once named
Rally hurts
Trumpet absurd
For you, for me, for we
Weee

Reverberations clanging empty

Martyred sense
Atrophy we know
Round, round the obelisks we go
Round, round we go
For you, for me, for we
Weee

Embracing disgrace

We are madness
We are sadness
Lucid glimmer dissipating
Once named
For you, for me, for we
Weee

Wail it to the elders who
Wail it to their children scornful
Who become the elders who
Wail it to their children mournful
Who become the elders who
Wail it to their children scornful who become the elders who wail it to their children mournful who become the elders who wail it to their children scornful who become the elders who wail

I will lead the blind along ways they have not known
Along unfamiliar paths I will guide them
Turning darkness into light before them
Making rough places smooth

These are the things I will do
These are the things I will do
I will not forsake them
These are the things I will do
These are the things I will do
I will not forsake you

When you pass through the waters
You will not be swept away
And when you walk through the flames
You will not be set ablaze
For I have redeemed you
I have summoned you by name
You are mine
So do not fear
I am with you

These are the things I will do
These are the things I will do
I will not forsake them
These are the things I will do
These are the things I will do
I will not forsake you

Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice...

Track Name: Factory B - Part II of the ¡Vicuña! Song Cycle
How self controlled you are
Assuredly poised
How clever you pose
Chaste, brave, content
To hide your dissent

It's just a formality
Your humility
Passion cooled to obligation
Lip service, hollow motion
Counting cost for merit gain
That's your malady
Your false fealty

Your deeds unfinished
Your measure lacking
Strengthen what remains before it dies
You say you're rich but you are poor
You say you're good but your heart is cold
Strengthen what remains before it dies
Strengthen what remains before it dies

If you kept a record of my sins
I would not stand
I could not stand
But with you there is forgiveness
With you there is mercy everlasting
You awe me
You awe me

Alleluia
Alleluia

Track Name: To Spring - Part III of the ¡Vicuña! Song Cycle
Old regrets turned present threats
Fear tears apart what could be built yet
Steel yourself against the past
To your hope hold fast

Do you not see it
I am doing something new
Do you not perceive it
I am making all things new
Do you not feel it
Now spring springs in the wasteland

The tale turns unexpected
Towards hope once neglected
My life reinvented
Disaster circumvented
I am not dwelling on my past failings
Into the new I shall now bloom

Gird yourself for war
Don't remain safe in your cove
You must take heart
There's no time for doubt
You cannot stay fate

Your joy is not in circumstance
Your joy is fighting to the last
There is no glory
There is no gain
If I must lose, if I must lose, if I must lose, if I must lose,
If I must lose
I lose, I lose, I lose without shame

***Many of the lyrics are taken/adapted from/inspired by Isaiah 42:9; Isaiah 43:18-19; Judges 5:17; John 16:33; 2 Timothy 4:7; Philippians 3:8; and Philippians 4:11-12
Track Name: Factory A
Earnestly I seek you
My soul thirsts for you
My flesh faints for you
Utterly I ache for you

Tears as food
I hunger for you
Through the watches of the night
Heart grieved
Spirit embittered
Unwound
Down, down, down
Down to my knees
Falling prostrate
Senseless
A brute beast before you

O God! O my God!
Do not forsake me
Do not reject me
Do not turn away
I desire nothing but you

You are my refuge
You are my strength
You are my refuge
You are my strength
